Hi family and friends!
For those of you that are not familiar with who I am my name is Kayla. My daughter Everly Alvarez was diagnosed with JRA commonly known as JIA in the beginning of August 2018 at the young age of 13 months old. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis is a autoimmune disease which means that the body mistakenly identifies some of its own cells and tissues as foreign. The immune system, which normally helps to fight off harmful, foreign substances such as bacteria or viruses, begins to attack healthy cells and
tissues. Most cases of JRA are mild, but severe cases may result in complications, such as joint damage and chronic pain. Having a child with JRA we take things one day at a time. The days Everly is in chronic pain simply making it out of bed to the kitchen for breakfast is our biggest accomplishment. On good days Everly lives a “normal” life as a little girl. It is estimated that 300,000 children in the United States have a form of arthritis. Some children have arthritis for just a few months, while others have arthritis for several years. In other cases, the condition can last a lifetime. I have joined #RacingforaCure in hopes to help fundraise for Children like my own who have to face this diagnosis. Any amount for a donate is greatly appreciated, even simply spreading the word to end the stigma of Childhood Rheumatoid Arthritis.
